Spring Term Philanthropic Events Through Greek Life

Greek Week

One of the biggest events Greek Life partakes in is Greek Week.  The event will be May 25-27 this year.  The week consist of a Greek wide barbecue, a motivational speaker, and a day of service.  Raising funds as a community, the proceeds will benefit Jackson Street Youth Services here in Corvallis.

Mock Rock

Possibly the largest philanthropic event here at Oregon State University, Kappa Delta’s Mock Rock will be held on April 6-8.  The main event of this is on Friday, where houses fill Gill Coliseum and entertain the community with a lipsync dance battle.  Other events include food fundraisers on both the 6th and the 7th.  The proceeds for this event benefit CARDV.

Iron Brawl

On April 14-16 Kappa Alpha Theta will be hosting their annual IronBrawl.  This even consists of a ZUMBA night, a day of service, a 5K “Run to Our CASA”, ultimately ending with a two flag football tournaments in Avery Park.  The proceeds of this event benefit CASA, a Court Appointed Social Advocates social services organization here in Corvallis.

 

Stars and Stripes

Alpha Tau Omega hosts this two day event on April 20 and 21 to raise money for the Oregon Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the South Corvallis Food Bank.  These two days include a day of service, and an obstacle course relay race.

March Madness Bracket Challenge

In a less time consuming event, Delta Delta Delta is hosting a March Madness bracketing challenge to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The brackets are due by March 14, and the winner will be announced at the conclusion of the tournament on April 4th.

Phi Gam Comedy Jam

Phi Gamma Delta is hosting the first ever all Greek comedy show on April 1st! This event will be held in the Circle room (Learning Innovation Center room 100), the doors open at 7pm, and the show will start at 7:45.  The proceeds will go to Heartland Humane Society.

Caddyshacked         

Lambda Chi Alpha will be hosting a three-person team mini-golf tournament.  This will be held at Golf City on April 23rd. The proceeds of this event will benefit Community Outreach, which is a non-profit organization here in Corvallis that provides basic human needs to homeless and poor in the Mid-Willamette Valley.

*This is not all of the philanthropies that will take place spring term, but the ones that have been presented already to chapter houses of the Greek Community.
