Corvallis has a new developing community of artists and creatives, entirely hosted on the social media messaging app Discord.
Discord is a social app, commonly used to communicate with various communities. This service was started in 2015 and originally aimed at gamers and other similar subcultures, but has since expanded to a wide range of communities.
It allows users to join and create servers with text and voice chat rooms, moderation and various features users can enable and participate in such as minigames and bots.
Created in response to a series of Reddit posts in the later months of 2024, Corvallis Creatives Collective is a Discord server, moderated by an artist who goes by the name Nez Arts online. It was created originally in late April 2025, and currently hosts over 100 members.
“It was sort of an epiphany moment for me where I realized that I could be the catalyst to help unify the creatives of Corvallis under a single local Discord server,” Nez Arts said over Discord. “It’s meant to be a safe space for LGBTQIA+/BIPOC creatives.”
Nez Arts himself is a creative whose interests include digital art, puppet making, sculpting and more. He created the server in hopes that it would provide the Corvallis community with the opportunity to connect with other creatives.
“There is value in having a place where you could share your work, get/give advice, collaborate and support other local artists,” he said.
The server utilizes Discord’s colorful “role” features and allows users to select what creative practices they pursue, ranging across visual arts, writing arts and music.
Additionally, the server has channels and channel sections dedicated to fine art, writing, crafting, media, music, tabletop gaming and general social subjects. There are also sections for selling, trading and buying art and commissions, and places for organizing and partaking in competitions.
While the server is currently relatively small in comparison to the population of Corvallis, it has grown fast in its first month of life, and join links and the server’s poster can be found on Reddit and Bluesky.
Currently, the group is exclusively digital, but there has been some interest in bringing the community together in the real world, since it is all localized to the same area.
“I plan to create meetup events with group activities hopefully very soon especially with spring and summer coming up,” Nez Arts said.
Those wishing to join the server can find links on Nez Art’s social media or here.
