Vision boards help keep you focused on New Years goals
January 17, 2019
Welcome to the New Year, a time for goals and fresh starts. Every year people make New Year’s resolutions, but later find them hard to keep. According to the U.S. News, approximately 80% of resolutions fail by mid February, but yours doesn’t have to be one of them.
A vision board is an excellent way to manifest those goals and keep you focused throughout the year. It’s a collage of images representing affirmations of one’s dreams and desires. According to the Chopra Center, a center founded in 1996 by Deepak Chopra, M.D. and David Simon, M.D. that focuses on ways to improve the health and well-being of body mind and spirit, vision boards have grown in popularity since their appearance in the book/film “The Secret.” By using vision boards, you are creating a graphic representation of the life you want to live.
Vision boards can be made by hand with magazine cutouts and glue, or digitally on a website like Pinterest. The only important thing is creating something that represents the future you want to have. The OSU Craft Center recommends cutting out any magazine images that stand out as you flip through the articles. The vision boards can be made as simply as magazine pictures glued to poster or cork board. Other materials necessary or helpful for creating a vision board are scissors, tape, pins, glue stick and bright markers or stickers.
Give yourself a stress free afternoon or at least an hour or two to put your board together. Invite friends over and make it a craft party. Have everyone bring some supplies and a favorite snack to share with the group. Not only will you have fun creating your vision board, but you and your friends can help one another manifest each others goals.
The most important aspect of a vision board is they should focus not just on the things you want, but also on how you want to feel. Don’t get caught up in material goods. Vision boards can include items from past events that you would like to keep attending. According to Elizabeth Rider, vision board enthusiast and host of “Elizabeth Eats” on FMTV, the most vital step is that it should only include things that inspire or motivate you in positive ways.
Another fun way to create a vision board is to make it online using a platform like Pinterest. Creating a digital vision board give you a wider range of images, inspirational quotes and even memes to choose from. Using a platform such as Pinterest means the space is limitless, and there will be no worry of running out of room for all your goals and aspirations.
Whatever way you decide to create your vision board, remember to have fun and have a happy New Year.
