Celebrate National Dessert Day

Alex Larson

Good news, folks! Sunday, Oct. 14 is National Dessert Day! The possibilities for celebration are endless.. There are plenty of places on and off campus to get some scrumptious treats, not only to celebrate National Dessert Day, but also to reward yourself for studying so hard in the midst of all these midterms!

On campus options:

1. Main Squeeze at McNary Dining

Main Squeeze is a small convenience store where students can get anything from cough drops, to energy drinks, to trail mix. Not only do they have ice cream in pint and bar form, and candy, but they also have made-to-order soft serve, smoothies, and chillers. For those of you looking to spend some dining dollars on a sweet cold treat, this is the place to go.

2. Raintree Cafe at McNary Dining

By day, Raintree offers Starbucks coffee drinks and baked goods. Most students stop by to get their caffeine fix along with a breakfast croissant or pastry. They close around 2 p.m., but on weeknights at 7:30 p.m. they open again, and offer desserts such as cake, cheesecake, mousse cups, eclairs, and more. They often have desserts made with featured seasonal flavors, such as pumpkin in the fall, peppermint in the winter, and berries in the spring.

3.  EBGB’s at West Dining

EBGB’s is another convenience store for students living on the west end of campus. EBGB’s serves Umpqua ice cream, in cones and bowls! If you’re not looking for a cold treat, they also offer many varieties of candy and snacks to satisfy your sweet tooth.

4. Tomassito’s/Food 2 You

You might think of beaver cheese pizza or pasta and garlic bread when you think Tomassito’s. Think again. Tomassito’s chocolate chip cookies are not only delicious, but they’re huge. The best part is that starting at 9 p.m., you can order these cookies through Food 2 You and have warm, delicious cookies delivered to your dorm room. It is recommended that you order them right at nine because these babies sell out quickly.

Around Corvallis

1.Yogurt Extreme

This one may seem obvious, but we had to include self serve frozen yogurt on our dessert list. Yogurt Extreme is located on Monroe, right off of campus, and is the perfect atmosphere to sit with your pals and enjoy a sweet treat. It’s also a good place to go with your friends, because everyone can customize their yogurt and get exactly what they’re craving.

2. Burst’s Candies

Located in downtown Corvallis, Burst’s Candies boasts on their website homemade chocolates, hard candies, nougat, and seasonal confections.  This is a great place to go for some classic chocolate truffles, nut brittles, and novelty treats like Thanksgiving themed, chocolate clothing apparel, Halloween chocolates, and even Oregon State themed chocolate. Go Beavs and go Bursts’.

3. Benny’s Donuts

Benny’s offers many varieties of doughnuts, including classic, local specialty, and monthly flavors. You can get anything from cinnamon sugar or vanilla cake to cold brew or lemon lavender flavor. They also offer gluten free and vegan donuts, for those who want to celebrate the national holiday without upsetting their stomaches. You can even bring some pals with you and get a Benny’s Dozen, which comes with a variety of different flavors, so you can sample the best of what Benny’s has to offer.
