10 Winter Weekend Getaways
January 25, 2017
During winter term it can be difficult to find fun activities to do because it gets dark earlier and the weather isn’t always great. Here are ten fun weekend getaways that you can do in the winter.
1. The Oregon Coast
The Oregon Coast is a great place for a weekend getaway. Newport beach is only forty minutes from Corvallis and the drive is beautiful. Round up some friends or a significant other and head to the Oregon Coast for some clam chowder and a pretty view.
2. Go on a Hike
Corvallis has many pretty views that are just a short hike away such as Mary’s Peak, Chip Ross Park and Bald Hill. Getting outdoors on a sunny winter day can be so beneficial.
3. Get a Home Cooked Meal
If you don’t live too far away, going home for the weekend can be very relaxing. It’s a great way to get some laundry done, see your family and get a nice home cooked meal.
4. A Cabin Trip
Getting away to a cabin in the snow can be a great study break for a weekend getaway. Luckily, Corvallis is close to the mountains. Finding a cabin with a group of friends can be affordable and fun!
5. Visit a Friend
If you have friends who go to other universities, such as University of Oregon, consider getting out of town for the weekend to go visit them. It’s nice to catch up with old friends and create some memories.
6. Hit the Mountain
There’s nothing quite like a sunny day on the slopes. Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor are both not too far away from Corvallis. On a good powder day, this can be a very fun and relaxing way to spend your time.
7. Indulge at a Spa
Winter term can be the most stressful term of the school year for many. A spa offers things like massages, face masks, manicures and pedicures, even for the guys. This is a wonderful way to relax and unwind.
8. Find a Hot Spring
Oregon is a beautiful state with many hot springs. Hot springs are not only relaxing, but they offer a number of health benefits such as better circulation and absorption of minerals. It can be a great way to relieve some stress and soak in nature. Some nearby hot springs are Terwilliger hot springs, Deer Creek hot springs and Bagby hot springs.
9. Adventure Leadership Institute (ALI)
One of the many reasons that Dixon Recreation Center is awesome can be credited to this program. ALI is a program for students who are interested in a leadership minor. This program brings students outside of Corvallis to take on fun adventures while learning leadership skills.
10. Visit the Beavers on the Road
If you’re a sports fanatic, visit the Beavers at an away competition whether it be for basketball, gymnastics, wrestling or a swim meet.
