Natural Ways to Boost Your Health

Adair Passey

It’s the middle of the term, leaves have fallen and the weather is starting to grow cold. Here are a few natural and simple ways to boost you health!

1. SLEEP

You’ve heard this one a million times, but sleep really is crucial to your well-being. If you want to perform and feel your best, you have to let your brain rest! Studies have shown that lack of sleep correlates with issues such as depression, stress, and weight gain. Make sure to get those 8 hours in every night!

2. CHOCOLATE

Eat healthy, but never forget to treat yourself every once and awhile. Dark chocolate has been proven to stimulate the production of endorphins, which brightens your mood!

3. EXERCISE

To work off those happy calories from eating dark chocolate, go to the gym! Working out also naturally releases endorphins into our bodies making us happier and healthier.

4. FRESH AIR

Clear your head by taking advantage of the beautiful outdoors Oregon has to offer. A breath of fresh air can boost your mood and bring clarity to your busy mind. Some favorites around town are Bald Hill, Chip Ross and the Lewisberg Saddle.

5. VITAMINS

Do you often feel overly tired and fatigued? Look into taking a multivitamin. For those of you coming from out of state, based on the recent rain storm, Oregon clearly doesn’t see much sun so getting your vitamin D3 elsewhere is crucial! A multivitamin not only covers your vitamin D3, which helps with fatigue, it also covers all other vitamins essential for strong immune systems and good health.

6. FURRY FRIENDS

Leaving our beloved little fur babies back at home can make us feel sad and lonely, so go pet someone else’s fur baby! Studies have shown that petting a dog can relieve stress within just 15 minutes. With our beautiful campus, Corvallis dog owners are always walking their precious pooches on campus so stop and say hi! SafeHaven Humane Society is also located off of Highway 34.

7. LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

Even in the midst of midterms, dead week or finals when the stress seems unbearable, always remember to look on the bright side of life. Focus on the little things throughout your day that make you smile, because really it’s the little things in life that matter.
