Here are upcoming classes to try this winter term:
1) Line Dancing
This class is being offered on Monday, March 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 1 at Dixon.
Line Dancing is a type of choreographed dance where a group of people learn the routine and are positioned in lines or rows. The routine is generally made up by sequenced steps performed in unison with other dancers. The dancers will usually face the same direction and have little to no physical contact with each other.
2) Hip Hop
This class is being offered on Wednesday, March 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 1 at Dixon.
Hip hop is described as a style of street dance, mainly performed to hip hop or rap music. It combines vibrant styles of dance with a variety of freestyle movements. It’s gaining popularity and is considered a cultural art form of dance.
3) Pilates
This class is being offered on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m in Multipurpose Room 1 at Dixon.
Pilates is a practice similar to yoga but can focus more on core strength. Instead of holding a pose like you would in yoga, pilates challenges you to move parts of your body while in a certain pose. It strengthens the body, balance and flexibility.
4) Cycling: Intervals
This class is being offered on Friday, Feb. 24 at 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Studio 1 at Dixon.
Cycling is a form of cardio performed on a bike. This class takes a step further in your regular cycling exercise because it will focus on power output and intensity. The intervals are designed to keep your heart rate up while you sprint and bring it back down as you recover from a fast pace.
5) Hydro HIIT
This class is being offered on Monday, Feb. 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in lanes seven and eight at the Dixon lap pool.
HIIT stands for “High Intensity Interval Training” which is a series of exercises back to back. It’s a high intensity form of cardio. This particular class will demonstrate HIIT in water. It’s less impact compared to regular HIIT training because of the inclusion of buoyancy from the water.
6) Yoga for Stress
This class is being offered on Friday, March 10 from 4:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. in Multipurpose Room 3 at Dixon.
This yoga class will focus on deep-breathing techniques, meditation with postures and poses. It can help you relieve stress by clearing your mind and focusing on your body movements. This class takes place week nine so it may be beneficial to take part before upcoming finals.
