This Friday, the Best Cellar Coffeehouse will be featuring a performance by Oregon grown musician, Wila Frank.
While Frank currently resides in Tennessee, she just so happened to grow up in a rural community just outside of Corvallis. In the midst of visiting her old stomping grounds, Frank has also taken this time back home to continue to work on her latest musical projects.
“Since coming out west for the summer, I’ve been working on producing a new EP in my childhood bedroom as well as writing new songs,” said Frank.
The singer-songwriter went on to describe her music as “emotional, nature-inspired, and post-folk.”
“I always feel my most creative in nature and in solitude,” Frank said.
Frank will not only be performing songs she has recently written while being back in Oregon, but also from her debut album, Black Cloud, that was released back in May.
“I named my album Black Cloud because it’s a collection of songs that felt like pent-up emotions needing to be released,” Frank said. “Having songs like this under my bed so to speak, without sharing them, was a bit of a dark cloud looming over my head.”
Frank not only explained the powerful sentiments that came with naming her latest album, but she also expressed her gratitude for knowing that people can relate to this idea of an internal storm of emotions.
“I had a dream of a black cloud years ago that stuck and seemed to perfectly symbolize all of the darker sides of myself that I have to face,” Frank said. “Therefore, dropping the album was extremely cathartic and especially rewarding to find others resonating with the music.”
The Best Cellar Coffeehouse is located at the first Methodist Church on 11th and Monroe in Corvallis. Frank will be performing this Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the Martha Room, which is in the church’s basement.
