SOL: LGBTQ+ Multicultural Support Network will be hosting various events for Lesbian Visibility Week from April 22-28.
To celebrate, SOL is hosting a movie night April 22 from 1-4 p.m. to watch lesbian-focused short films; a history exhibit featuring a walk through Interactive timeline of butch and femme history on April 24 from 2-4 p.m.; and a lesbian social evening with snacks, games and music on April 26 from 5-7 p.m.
All events are hosted at the Student Experience Center in room 112.
According to I-Yun Lee, a PhD Student in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Oregon State University, Lesbian Visibility Week is a time to celebrate the lesbian community and to challenge stereotypes and show solidarity with LGBTQ+ women and non-binary folx.
“Connect and engage – educate yourself on the history and other relevant topics,” Lee said. “A simple Google search can be very useful in answering some of the most common questions you might have. Engage with local or national groups working on reducing stereotypes and promoting inclusion.”
