Pumpkins and Corn Mazes and Hayrides…Oh My!
For those who wish to enjoy family-friendly fun and bask in the fall weather outdoors, there are many pumpkin patches stretching throughout the Willamette Valley offering fun scares and wholesome fall vibes for friends and family.
There are plenty of options for pumpkin patches to visit, including but not limited to: Davis Family Farm Hayrides and Pumpkin Patch, Greengables Farms and The Melon Shack.
These pumpkin patches offer opportunities to find the perfect pumpkin, solve corn mazes and enjoy hayrides while snacking on food from food trucks and vendors at each pumpkin patch.
Davis Family Farm, located on 4380 NE Hwy 20, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Greengable Farms, located on 24689 Grange Hall Road, Philomath, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This may be a bit early for some OSU students to be able to attend, but not to fear. For a more frightening experience, the Melon Shack, located on 3039 NE Garden Ave., Corvallis, offers a haunted corn maze Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30-10 p.m.
Concerts That Will Have the Monsters Mashing
Scattered around Corvallis is the nightlife beyond house parties. For those who want live music, places like Common Fields, Bombs Away and Old World Deli have just the thing.
Located at 545 SW Third St., Common Fields will be hosting a Halloween rock concert on Oct.19 from 7-10:30 p.m.
All ages are welcome to enjoy live music with a $5 cover. Because of the spooky rock show theme, people are encouraged to come dressed up to celebrate Halloween season.
In the month of “Rocktober,” Bombs Away will be hosting a Boo Bash on Oct. 25. This party will be a Halloween-themed dance event starting at 9 p.m.
Later in the month on Oct. 26, Common Fields will be hosting its first ever dance party to celebrate Halloween with DJ Captain Disco from 5-9 p.m.
Participants can come ready to dance and enjoy festive drink specials. There will be a costume contest open for all who attend, so make sure to come in costume.
On Oct. 31 at 7 p.m., Old World Deli, located on 341 SW Second St., will be hosting a Halloween special performance by Space Neighbors, free for all.
The genre of the band can be described as funky and eclectic, with music based out of Corvallis since 2009.
Theatre and the Big ‘Scream’
Drifting away from concerts, Corvallis is home to Majestic Theatre and Whiteside. This October and Halloween season, both cater to those whose sweet tooth is theater.
Presented by Erotic Nightmare Shadow Players, Whiteside Theatre located on 461 SW Madison Ave., will be showing “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Rocky Horror Picture Show follows the story of a plain couple who are entwined in the madness of Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s lab experiment to create life, after their car breaks down. With a cast of eerily quirky and fun queer characters, this show offers fun and erotic adult humor.
With showings on Oct. 18, Oct. 25, and on Halloween itself, performances start at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets and tickets at the door are $25, with online sales ending at 5 p.m. on the day of the show. Tickets can also be purchased on the phone at (541)-752-0437.
Costumes are encouraged with a chance to enter and win a costume contest. Prop bags will also be available for purchase for a more immersive experience.
Located on 115 SW Second St., The Majestic Theatre also has a few options for more family-friendly fun.
The Majestic Theatre will be showing a shadow cast version of “Over the Garden Wall” with tickets that cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
From talking pumpkins and singing frogs, to witches and a beast that lurks in the woods, “Over the Garden Wall” is a nostalgic fall television show following two brothers as they navigate this unknown autumn land.
For those who may not know, a shadow cast show simply means the audience watches the show on the big screen while actors act out the show live on the stage. The show encourages the audience to dress up and stay after for a raffle.
There will be only two showings this season, one on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
In addition to the “Over The Garden Wall” shadow cast, the Majestic Theatre is also showing Little Shop of Horrors from late October leading into early November. Tickets are $22 for adults, but students and seniors get discounted tickets at $20.
While not a Halloween-dedicated event, the musical offers a horrific premise of an ever growing, bloodthirsty plant with bubbly and catchy show tunes.
Evening showings at 7:30 p.m. include Oct. 26 and Oct. 31, as well as Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 7-10. There are a few matinee exceptions on Sunday, Oct. 27; Sunday, Nov. 3; and Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m.
To be more inclusive for audiences, the Oct. 27 matinee showing will also provide ASL interpretation.
Spooky Queens at Common Fields
Halloween is often a night of dressing up and letting your freak flag fly. Among all the eccentric characters that’ll roam Halloween night are the avant garde Queens of Oregon.
For the past few months, Common Fields has been hosting drag shows every first Friday of the month since April 2024 as part of their First Friday series.
Closing out the series drag Queen Kenzie B, along with other Queens from around Oregon, will come together for one last Halloween-themed performance on Oct. 31 from 8-10 p.m.
