‘Tis the season of love as Valentine’s day approaches. Romantic love, platonic love, you name it — Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate love in general.
Whether you’re coupled up or flying with your friends, Corvallis has many ways to celebrate Valentine’s day, ranging from different types of music and entertainment for all.
Music and Dancing
Whether you want to dance or vibe, live music with some good grub is an option at Interzone and Old World Deli.
On Valentine’s day, Interzone will be hosting a special performance by experimental music artist Ryosuke Kiyasu, who’s touring from Japan.
Along with Kiyasu, there will also be performances by Kole Gailbraith and Tarantula Princess, making for a funky Valentine’s evening.
This event is open for all ages. The event itself is free, however, $5-10 donations are appreciated.
Old World Deli offers a night of jazz and blues, featuring Charlene and Her Champagne Bruts, on Feb. 14 with no cover charge at 7 p.m.
For something located closer to campus, Alex Cuba will be performing at the PRAx on Feb. 14.
With a soulful and melodic sound, Cuba won a Grammy award in 2022 for Best Latin Pop Album.
There will be two showings, one at 7 p.m. and another at 9 p.m. Admission is $35, but for Oregon State University students tickets are only $5.
The Lightbox Happy Hour will also be open.
Another option for those who wish to stay on campus: Oregon State University Program Council presents Cupid’s Night Out from 7 to 9 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
With dancing, raffles and sweet treats, the event is located in the Memorial Union ballroom, is free for all and has no dress code.
Theatre and Cinema
Looking for a more cinematic way to spend Valentine’s Day, the Majestic Theatre will be showing “Moulin Rouge” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the “Moulin Rouge,” the movie follows a young Englishman in 1989 Paris who falls in love with a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge. Despite the attraction between the two, the forces of their lives pull them apart, resulting in the two beginning a secret love affair.
Accompanying the film, the Majestic Theatre will also be hosting a costume contest, trivia and themed concessions.
There is no late seating, meaning that if you are late, there’s a chance your ticket and seat may be re-sold.
For those who wish to have a creature-feature love story, Whiteside Theatre is hosting a live shadow cast of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Feb. 14, presented by Erotic Nightmare Shadow Players.
The plot follows a young naive couple who end up at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s dinner party where he brings to life a monster who is also meant to be his lover.
In shadow cast fashion, there will be live actors in costume performing the movie in front of the audience as well.
Tickets are $25 for pre-sale and at the door. Online sales will be available until 5 p.m. on the day of the show. However, tickets will still be available at the door. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m.
Doors open at 7 p.m. while the show begins at 8 p.m.
