Vampires, thrills and romance.
Those are the themes of “Violets in the Night,” the winter student play at Oregon State University, written by Mircalla Addams.
“Violets in the Night” will play at the Philomath Museum from Feb. 13 to Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. showing on Feb. 16.
Tickets are $12 for seniors and youth and $15 for general admission. OSU students can enjoy the play for free.
Addams, a fifth-year digital communications and theatre arts double major, wrote the play after being inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “Christabel.” The story is very personal to Addams.
The play written by Addams is directed by Lydia Dapkus, a fourth year marine studies major and theatre minor.
“Violets in the Night,” a queer story, tells the tale of a young woman, Geraldine, whose life drastically changes after a supernatural traumatic event. After meeting Christable, or Christie, Geraldine must explore her romantic relationship through multiple eras and time periods.
“(The play is) a very personal work exploring the ideas of first love and the way that trauma impacts the ability to trust oneself and others, and how when left unexamined and untreated it will poison future relationships,” Addams said in an email.
