This year’s Out of the Darkness Campus walk is being hosted on Saturday with a 10 a.m. check in at the Student Experience Center Plaza. The event itself starts at 11 a.m. and is free and open to everyone.
This event is hosted by Oregon State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The event aims to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide. CAPS and ASFP hopes to counter the stigma and lack of support around the topic. The goal of the event is to increase conversation, help seeking behaviors, awareness and resources according to the event site.
This year, in addition to the hope walks there will be a “celebration of hope” according to event organizers. The celebration includes a closing ceremony, music, food, activities and art.
