Oregon State University will host their 46th annual łatwa Ina Pow-Wow on Saturday at Gill Coliseum on the Corvallis campus. This community event is free to attend, and organized by the Native American Student Association, as well as university partners.
Eliza Porter, an officer in the Native American Student Association club, is helping to run the Pow-Wow. Porter explained a bit of what they are planning to have at the event.
The event is set to celebrate Indigenous culture through music and dance, as well as vibrant marketplaces, including Native arts and craft vendors.
The grand entries begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., the doors open at noon and a livestream is available, starting at 6 p.m.
Porter said this event is substance-free and drugs and alcohol use will not be tolerated.
All are welcome, and respectful participation is encouraged.
The łatwa Ina Pow-Wow will include a wide range of competitive dance categories such as Jingle, Grass Dance, Women’s and Men’s Fancy and Traditional styles, with cash prizes awarded to the top performers.
The event will honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/People.
There will be a Head Dancer Special, as well as a Tiny Tot competition, which will be featured.
Leading the day’s events are respected members of the Pow-Wow community: Carlos Calica will serve as MC, with Anthony Bluehorse as Arena Director. Ramona and Anthony Quenelle will lead as Head Woman and Head Man Dancers, respectively.
Star Horse will serve as Host Drum, with Four Directions joining as the Honor Drum, and the Grand Ronde Honor Guard will also take part in the ceremony.
