Do you like desserts and helping children in need? Oregon State’s Delta Delta Delta sorority, also known as Tri Delta, will be opening their chapter home to the Corvallis community on Tuesday February 20, to host their annual winter philanthropy event called Delta Desserts. Delta Desserts is an all you can eat dessert event to earn money for their philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Brooke Stevens, Philanthropy Chairman for Delta Delta Delta, expresses the impact that the Tri Delta chapters across the country have on the hospital, “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is funded through donation-based fundraising and partners with large corporations like K-Mart, Dominos, and 7/11, but their biggest partnership is Tri Delta. Since 1999, Tri Delta nationally has been partnered with them and has raised over $45 million dollars as of 2014. In 2014, we made the commitment to raise $60 million in 10 years, and it was just announced that in only 3.5 years, we have raised half of that! We were so excited to hear about that!”

Delta Desserts is an event hosted by Tri Delta in which one hundred percent of proceeds go toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Last year, our event raised over $6,000,” said Stevens. “To put that into perspective, $6,000 can cover one day of chemotherapy, two hours of physical therapy, two days of oxygen, three blood cell transfusions, one chest X-Ray, two complete blood count tests, and three plasma transfusions for a patient at St. Jude.”

This third annual event will Desserted Island themed this year, with all the treats being homemade by OSU’s Tri Delta chapter members.

“Members plan the desserts they will make for the event – we have some members that go all out and bake elaborate desserts too! The rest of the event is decorating our house according to the theme. Since our theme is Desserted Island, we will have a lot of tropical themed desserts and decorations.”

Delta Deserts will be held at the Tri Delta chapter house on 26th street on February 20 from 6:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m. The event has unlimited treats with an entry fee. The entry cost is $6 at the front door, or a $5 for pre-sale cost. For an $8 total cost, people can choose to skip the line at the door. Entry tickets can be purchased through the Venmo app and the username to Venmo is TriDeltaOSU. The event is for all community members, not just OSU students or those involved in Greek life.

“Delta Desserts is for everyone. We encourage and would love to see members outside the Greek community come so we can show you all the amazing things St. Jude does for children all over the world. They impact so many communities and demographics, ensuring no child dies in the dawn of life regardless of socioeconomic standing.”

Freshman Tri Delta sister, Kendra Westerlein expresses her thoughts on partaking in the event for the first time.

“I am extremely excited for Delta Desserts because who doesn’t love dessert? I’m looking forward to welcoming people from OSU and the Corvallis community into our home for a fun night and for a great cause. We are all so proud to be helping out such an amazing organization like St. Jude!”
