October is here! That means it’s time for another Netflix Round-Up. There’s a lot of new shows coming on the site this month and we’re here to sift through the shows and movies and bring you the best and brightest.

 

1. Stranger Things: Season 2

Stranger Things is one of those shows that may seem like a mid-range horror TV show before you watch it, but once you dive into the world of Eleven and the gang, your world will be turned upside-down, literally. Spoiler alert, if you haven’t watched season one yet you should go do that now before reading on.

Eleven is trapped in the upside down, after giving up herself to save Will Byers. Now there are more monsters coming out from the shadows and threatening the town. The Duffer brothers have said that this new season is focused more on the thriller aspect of the show than horror, but we can’t make any assumptions till it comes out. The second season will be out October 27th so mark your calendar.

 

2. American Vandal

A mix between Making a Murderer and Serial, this mockumentary explores Dylan Maxwell and his expulsion from school over the alleged crime he claims he didn’t commit. It involves high school drama, crazy parties, and “family jewels.” If you enjoyed Serial or love mockumentaries, you’ll love this mini-series.

 

3. Dreamland

Not another office comedy! But this isn’t just another office comedy; it’s an Australian office comedy, toooottaly different. This show focuses on an urban planning office in Australia, featuring great jokes and awesome laughs. It’s a great show if you want to take a load off and experience some comedy from the other side of the planet.

 

4. The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared

A bit of warning, you should definitely see the first movie in this series, “The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” first because you won’t understand the backstory of this movie from the very beginning (trust us, it’s another really good movie).

A Swedish film, this movie continues the insane adventures of Allan Karlsson as he sets out to find the formula for a 70’s Russian soda. It’s got great comedy, lots of action, and will keep you laughing the entire time.

 

5. The Good Place

Here at BD, We don’t usually fall for NBC comedies. Oh wait, what about Parks and Rec, The Office, 30 Rock… Okay, scratch that. We DO love NBC Comedies, and The Good Place is no exception. The story about a mix up when Eleanor ends up going to “The Good Place” when she should be in “The Bad Place” and pretends to be good while avoiding detection and dealing with lots of crazy stuff. There are a lot of twists and turns in the show that we won’t spoil, you’ll just have to watch it yourself. This comedy is a fresh new show in NBC’s lineup and deserves your attention if you’ve enjoyed any of NBC’s previous hits. You can catch the first season on Netflix just in time to catch up on the the second season which is airing now.

 

6. Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later

It’s really hard to judge whether or not Netflix is trying to push Wet Hot American Summer as a small cult TV-Show aimed at those infatuated with the movie or a big hit for the masses. The second series developed by Netflix, Ten Years Later looks at the pact that the campers made to revisit Camp Firewood ten years into the future. You can expect the usual crazy hijinks, Naked Gun like jokes, and the usual world ending apocalyptic scenario. If you were a fan of the movie or of First Day of Camp, you’ll enjoy this reboot.

 

7. Okja

Okja is about a small girl Mija who lives in South Korea and helps her grandfather raise a new breed of pig aimed to solve the world’s hunger problems.When the corporation wants the superpig back for a grand reveal in New York City, Mija embarks on a journey to save Okja and encounters crazy animal scientists, psychotic CEO’s, and Animal Rights Activists. This movie aims to tackle big real world issues in an eccentric and imaginative way.
