Lady Beavs Back At It

March has finally arrived and with it comes the highly favorable “March Madness.” For those who find sports as not necessarily their forte, March Madness is the term used to describe the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments that will be happening over the next several weeks. Betting and brackets surround the nationwide phenomena of baskets and Cinderella stories.

The tournaments of March Madness differ slightly between Men’s and Women’s basketball for playing locations. First and second round locations for the Men’s tournaments are predetermined whereas locations for the first and second rounds in the Women’s tournaments are at non-predetermined campus sites. Oregon State University Women’s Basketball has not only been selected for the tournament as a second seed, but also chosen to be one of the sixteen first and second round hosts.

Last season, the Women’s Basketball team made it to the Final Four in the tournament, but were tested by Women’s Basketball of the University of Connecticut, also known as UCONN. According to NCAA and as of March 6, 2017, UCONN Women’s Basketball has not lost a game in 841 days with two National Title wins during the 107 game winning streak, but a streak of four straight and counting National Titles. Though OSU Women’s Basketball was pitted against the UCONN Huskies during their first ever Final Four appearance, they are determined to go just as far and further in the coming weeks, even though it may mean possibly facing off against the number one seed UCONN Huskies once again should both teams make it as far as the National Championship.

The first game hosted will be between (2) Oregon State and (15) Long Beach State in Gill Coliseum at 2 p.m. The second game will be between (7) Creighton versus (10) Toledo in Gill Coliseum at 4:30 p.m. The winners of each of the two games will play each other on Sunday, with a time still to be determined. The Oregon State Women’s Basketball team once again has a shot to conquer the obstacles ahead of them and battle through the tournament.
