7 Ways to Prepare for the Career Expo

The Career Expo is coming to Oregon State! It can be challenging to prep for a career expo when you could potentially be talking to future employers, so you want to put your best foot forward. Here are seven ways to prep for the Career Expo to ensure success.

1. Work on your Resume

Every college student should have a resume of some sort, but it is important to consider editing and updating your resume prior to the career expo. Resumes are intended to show off your skills, so make sure yours is great.

2. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

This is simple to think about, but actually getting yourself to go to bed at a decent hour is the hard part. You want to be professional, therefore getting enough sleep is a key way to ensure you will be successful.

3. Dress to Impress

The career expo is typically a business casual event, so be sure you are looking fresh and professional if you want to be taken seriously.

4. Practice Interview Skills

This one is especially important. When communicating with potential employers it’s important to sound confident and rehearsed. Sit down with a friend and practice some questions you might be asked to answer.

5. Plan Events Ahead

There are many events at the career expo such as nonprofit opportunities, volunteering and speed mock interviews.

6. Research Companies

On the Oregon State website, there is a list of companies who will be attending the career expo and in order to put your best foot forward, make sure you know about the company before talking to them.

7. Always Have Questions

At the end of a conversation if the company asks, “Do you have any questions?”, always have a question ready. This makes it seem like you are very interested and you did some research before the event.
