Recipe Card: Fried Rice, College Dorm-Style (Home Cooking, Ep. 7)

Home Cooking highlights family recipes from international students. In this episode, home cook Meisen Hu walks you through all the necessary ingredients, preparation and cooking instructions to make fried rice.


  • Cooked white rice
  • Eggs
  • Your desired protein (sausage, cooked shrimp, cooked beef, meatballs, tofu, other leftover meat dishes, beyond meat products, etc)
  • Your desired vegetable combinations (Suggested: corn, carrots and peas)
  • Sweet chili sauce and green onions (optional) for seasoning


Step 1: Turn on the stove to medium heat, and add about 1/3 – 1/2 cups of vegetable oil in a frying pan

Step 2: Stir fry two eggs with diced green onions till scrambled then put the scrambled eggs aside.

Step 3: Slice sausages into 1 cm-thick slices and pan fry with the sweet chili sauce.

Step 4: Add cooked rice, the scrambled eggs and vegetables, and stir fry on high heat until the rice is fully cooked. 

Step 5: Enjoy!
