Lend a Helping Hand with Community Outreach Inc.

Adair Passey

Community Outreach Inc. is a nonprofit local shelter that helps serve the homeless and low income families around Benton County. They provide an abundance of services including a free medical clinic, food bank, low cost dental clinic, counseling and case management, child care, transitional housing and more. Community Outreach has been “helping people help themselves since 1971.” Their goal is to help those who have fallen on hard times get back on their feet.

As a nonprofit, COI is always looking for community help and support. Any donations from community members is appreciated. There are also several volunteer opportunities. The medical and dental clinic are entirely volunteer staffed. Also, Mari’s Place, the onsite preschool, is always looking for volunteers to assist with snack and nap time, clean up, as well as people to entertain the children. Last, but not least, the actual shelter can always use some extra help. Assistance at the front desk and in the food pantry is always welcomed. Not only does COI have volunteer programs, they also do internships. Calling all Public Health and HDFS majors!

If you have any questions and want to contact COI for an internship or volunteer opportunity, contact them at 541-758-3000 or look on their website communityoutreachinc.org.
