Home Cooking highlights family recipes from international students. In this episode, home cook Nik walks you through all the necessary ingredients, preparation and cooking instructions to make Chakhokhbili.

The recipe is a traditional meal from the country of Georgia.


  • 1 whole chicken, cut into medium-sized pieces without the skin
  • Salt and pepper
  • Two bell peppers
  • A bunch of tomatoes canned or sliced
  • Optional: red pepper or dried red pepper
  • 3 cloves of garlic 
  • 4 onions
  • Parsley


  1. Put the chicken inside a medium heat pot (no oil or water) for 40 minutes.
  2. Put a lid on the pot and stir the chicken occasionally.
  3. Cut the vegetables.
  4. After 40 min, add the bell pepper and onion and let it cook for 10 min.
  5. After 10 min, add the salt, pepper and tomatoes.
  6. Cover and let it cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. After 10 min, add the garlic, parsley and pepper and cover it for another minute and it’s done!
