It’s February and you know what that means… Galentine’s Day! What’s Galentine’s Day? A day of ladies celebrating ladies. “You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries,” (Knope)

What Is It?

Galentine’s Day originated on the hit show Parks and Rec, when Leslie Knope celebrates a day before Valentines Day, February 13th, to acknowledge our women friends. A holiday full of love and female empowerment!

How Should I Celebrate?

There are many ways to commemorate this joyous occasion and there is no wrong way to do it. Whether it is a post on social media or a party, you can celebrate Galentine’s Day just about any way. But if you are stumped, here are four exciting ways to help make this holiday special.

  1. Host a Waffle Bar

If there is anything Leslie loves more than her lady friends, it’s waffles. Celebrate the founder of this feminist holiday by inviting some of your female friends over, making waffles and setting up a bar of toppings so your friends can create their own unique Galentine’s waffle!

  1. Parks and Rec Marathon

There is no better way to observe this holiday than binging the show from which this holiday originated. Grab some friends or your dog, get comfy with some popcorn and enjoy all seven seasons of this show!

  1. Go Out To Brunch

Galentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated by “leaving our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” (Knope) Find your favorite brunch place and your favorite group of gals and have fun kicking it breakfast-style!

  1. Treat Yo Self

Follow Donna and Tom’s way of learning to love yourself by treating yourself this holiday. Go to the spa, go to a movie or buy those shoes you’ve been eyeing for a while. Do something that you wouldn’t normally do and love yourself this Galentine’s Day!

Fun Quotes:

Leslie Knope has some quotes you could use to caption your Instagram post or Snapchat your best friend this February 13th.

  • “I’m a feminist, okay? I would never ever go to a strip club. I’ve gone on record that if I had to have a stripper’s name, it would be Equality.”

  • “I guess some people object to powerful depictions of awesome ladies.”

  • “You’re a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk ox”

  • “I love you and I like you.”

  • “I’m gonna get drunk and then I’m gonna order a three-course meal where each course is made of dessert.”

“We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third,” (Knope) Whether you’re celebrating with friends or celebrating by yourself, have a happy Galentine’s Day!
