The Hattie Redmond Women & Gender Center (HRWGC) offers a cozy, inclusive space to help you thrive at Oregon State University. Whether you’re looking for community, support, or a place to unwind, the HRWGC has something for everyone.
Here are four reasons to stop by!
Workshops, Game nights and more!
The center keeps things fresh with events that are fun and meaningful for students at OSU.
Director Fatima Roohi Pervaiz highlights a few favorites: Crafternoon (learn how to mend and upcycle your clothes), the Women of Color Support Group, and a Dungeons & Dragons Night (once adjusted to be accessible for students observing Ramadan).
No matter the activity, the HRWGC creates spaces where everyone can learn, connect, and belong.
The Ultimate Campus Hangout
Need a break from the bustle of campus life?
“Students can watch TV, they can play Nintendo Switch, they can work on puzzles or Legos,” Pervaiz says.
The HRWGC offers a safe, welcoming space with gender neutral bathrooms, a kitchen to store your food, and plenty of sensory fidget toys to help you relax. Unlike larger cultural centers, its smaller size gives it a home-like feel.
Support & Community Building
At its heart, the HRWGC is about people. Whether you’re building friendships or looking for a quiet spot to reflect, you’re welcome here. “This has been a very grounding space,” says Rain Scarborough, a fifth-year student and HRWGC employee.
Honoring Hattie Redmond’s Legacy
Named after Hattie Redmond, a Black suffragist who fought for women’s voting rights in Oregon, the center carries on her legacy through its mission of equity, inclusion, and justice. “Everything we do is to honor Mrs. Hattie’s legacy,” says Pervaiz.
HRWGC, located at 1700 SW Pioneer Place in Corvallis, Oregon, is here to help you do just that.
