Cleaning the house is an eternal struggle when there are so many enticing things I’d rather be doing.
Play Video Games
I have an engaging role playing game (RPG) to get to, where my focus will not be on mopping the floor or wiping the counters. In some cases, it’ll become a hyperfixation where I want to consume every piece of media related to it.
Go Camping
The great outdoors is amazing because I get to be out of the house, escape the guilt of not cleaning something, and enjoy the world.
Hang Out with Friends
Not only do I get to make irreplaceable memories, I can also complain about the daily obligations of life to a willing audience, instead of passive-aggressively muttering them while dusting.
Online Shopping
I already love shopping but being able to do it from the comfort of my home that I’m not going to clean is even better.
Do Some Exercise
Certain aspects of cleaning may be considered exercise but the act of getting the gains at the gym is a different weight class entirely.
Learn a New Recipe
I like to read about new recipes I could try. Then I remember the kitchen is part of the house and proceed to order Doordash for the 70th time.
Jam Out to Music
Yeah, I can jam to music while cleaning but I like to immerse myself in the sounds and let it envelop me… you know, actually enjoy myself rather than have it be background noise for bland monotony.
Organize My Shelves
I may not like to clean the house, but my collectables need to look aesthetically pleasing. It would make my inner nerd proud. This is what we call productive procrastination.
Watch Youtube Videos
There’s nothing like coming home after a long day of school or work and turning on a comfort Youtube channel to take the stress away. The last thing I want to do when getting home from work is having to do more work.
Write This Article
As I sit here writing, I’m working and feeling more productive than cleaning a place that will inevitably become messy again. What gets published in a magazine will outlast any attempted cleanliness.
