Even though October has ended, that doesn’t mean autumn is completely done. The leaves are still changing, the weather is just getting colder, and the cities’ fall festivities are only beginning.
It’s hard to attend every event and social hangout when all your money goes towards your education, and all your energy goes to classes or fighting over study spots in the Memorial Union.
If you’re still wondering what kind of festive activities can still be done late in autumn, especially fit for broke college students, grab your pumpkin spice latte, get comfy, and get ready to start planning the rest of your autumn with this list.
- Visit the Corvallis Farmers’ Market
The Corvallis Farmers Market happens in town every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. This farmers’ market is only a 30-minute walk from campus, but it feels like 15 minutes when you’re walking and talking with friends. This farmers’ market is the perfect place to grab some fresh fruit and vegetables, sample some of the locals’ festive snacks, and relax by the Willamette River.
The farmers’ market is totally free just to walk around and look at, unless you end up buying something, of course. But it’s not just food; there are plenty of vendors selling sweater-weather clothes, handcrafted jewelry, and more.
- Cozy Cafes
Nothing says autumn like a trip to a cozy cafe with a group of friends. Maybe you’re there to study, or you’re there just to chill out. Hitting up a local cafe while exploring Corvallis is such a fantastic way to appreciate this autumn weather while supporting local restaurants.
While you’re exploring Corvallis’s cafes, make sure to grab that Pumpkin Spice latte or chai before it goes out of season for the whole year!
- Pumpkin Patch Trip
Corvallis is home to very few but very popular pumpkin patches. One very popular pumpkin patch that OSU students love to visit is the Melon Shack. The Melon Shack is open from 10 am to 6 pm, but from 10 pm on Thursday to Saturday.
This pumpkin patch is different from others because it offers a spooky corn maze around October. The corn maze is $6 per person to enter. If you’re looking to purchase some pumpkins, they are only 46 cents per lb, such a perfect pumpkin patch for OSU students to explore before the season officially turns into winter.
Another great Pumpkin Patch to visit in Corvallis is the Davis Family Farm. This pumpkin patch is just a little further than the Melon Shack, but it’s another really good place to visit before the season ends. The Davis Family Farm is open from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Something special about this farm is that it offers a free hayride through the farm and fresh apple cider.
- Spooky Movie Night
Nothing says autumn like getting cozy with all your friends and watching some Halloween movies late at night. If you’re having trouble deciding what to watch, we have some great recommendations.
Suppose you’re looking for some sweet, non-scary Halloween movies. In that case, we recommend movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas (which is totally a Halloween movie, not a Christmas movie), Hocus Pocus 1 and 2, It’s the Great Pumpkin, charlie brown, The Addams Family (1991 version), The Craft, and Beetlejuice.
But if you’re more into thrillers and horror, we have some movies that will scare you, like Scream, The Shining, Psycho, The Exorcist, The Conjuring, American Horror Story, and, of course, Halloween.
- Visit the Irish Bend Bridge
The Irish Bend Bridge is only a 25-minute walk from campus and not one you want to miss. This is one of the best places to visit in the fall for fall-themed photos with you and your friends. You can see this bridge at any time of the day; sunset might be the best time to go.
If you haven’t found the perfect place for those fall Instagram photos for your page, we recommend this bridge. It’s full of fall foliage and never busy, making it the ideal place for that fall photoshoot.
